The Brian Mulroney Institute of Governance is the centrepiece of the St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The primary concept of the building was to reflect the very concept of democratic government in which the Nation of Canada is based on. With a split level distribution which integrates into the natural slope of the terrain, the building utilizes the rhythm of local fenestration of the heritage buildings of University, as it establishes itself as the central agora for the students and their focus on the dialogue of politics. Accompanied by an associated stoa, the counterpart of the open atrium of the agora, is the colonnade canopy interfacing building and landscape. The building strives to provide versatility in use, as well as accessibility in circulation, embodying the essence of a true democracy.
