The mixed-use residential complex is designed with the intent to create a community within the urban development of Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The design mimics and is inspired by the material palette and geometries of traditional Arabic architecture, with its clustering of buildings connected by narrow passages, the arrangement of the building masses allow for a sheltering of the central courtyard from the sun. Additionally, the alignment with the predominant winds, and the use of open trellis shading screens allow the construction to take advantage of passive cooling for the entire development. With ground floor retail, and distributed amenities in the courtyard and on the rooftops of each building, the complex is an integral component of the larger neighbourhood being constructed for the growing district.
