In a global collaboration effort between the B+H Architects offices in Toronto and Shanghai, the Columbia Healthcare facility for the city of Jiaxing (Zhejiang Province) in China is a new private hospital serving a population of 4.5 million people. Situated within the Jiaxing Economic Development Zone, the 500 bed hospital provides a variety of medical services: Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT, Dentistry, Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Urology, Oncology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Rehabilitation and Nutrition, Radiology, Laboratory, Hemodialysis and Radiotherapy. B+H Architects design team was responsible for the exterior design, clinical planning, and interior design for the project. The public spaces within the building reflect the scale of the services provided, as they function as the hub for the patient processing and circulation experience. With an open atrium space design, the procession from entrance to the various healthcare services is an experience supported with clear way-finding, accessible design, biophilic elements, and natural light.
